McNabb’s message to private Facebook group on April 13, 2020.

Fayette Co. Constable Wade McNabb is making it EASIER for landlords to pressure tenants into leaving their homes *in the middle of a public health pandemic while we are under a stay-at-home order.* This is the opposite of what we need right now. Tenants need protection from being forced out of their homes, help with paying rent, and assurance that no one will be evicted due to non-payment that occurred during the state of emergency. Our elected officials need to be helping tenants stay in their homes, not pressuring them out. This is appalling.

Tenants, if you receive one of these orders, know your rights: you CANNOT be evicted during COVID-19. Rent is still due, and landlords will eventually be able to file evictions for non-payment, but not until June 1. For now, you CAN stay in your home. Call Lexington Fair Housing Council at (859)971-8067 if you need legal help.

This is all the more reasons we need Governor Andy Beshear to pass universal protections ensuring no one will ever be evicted due to non-payment during the state of emergency. Sign the petition here!
